Patio Living Above the Din of the City
Listening and Writing
The birds LOVE it here. I hear a minimum of 9 different bird songs, tweets, and chits (though I know I’ve miscounted–there are dozens). The sonorous singing is mixed with the march of humans in machines from afar with the occasional human within 200 or so yards.
Electricity lines buzz.
A crow caws.
A human breathing heavily in a walk up 46 steep stairs.
A dog barks. A car honks. 3 sirens serenade sadly in the distance.
A fast bee buzzes by behind my head as a jet roars overhead briefly imbuing the sonic interlude with a brush of upper frequencies.
A bellowing white male voice circles below in muffled corporate-speak on his spaceship phone talking more loudly than is necessary. A crow looks down and caws several times seemingly in an attempt to quiet him.
I sip my cup of strong java up on the hill in the morning sun.
